Thought I got some silver today

out of the coin counter reject tray but I was mistaken- glad I was too. Short story I go and dump coins at least once a day from my CRH endeavors. Anyways when I dump my halves I always dump in .24 and always pocket whats in the reject tray if anything. Sometimes I get a wheatie, foreign job..... today there was a half dozed coins in the reject, one rosie, one ten cent foreign job, another small silver colored coin and a few pennies. I noticed the date was 1872 and didn't readily recognize as I was quickly depositing them in my other pocket- old coin like that, gotta be a silver- NOT. But I am happy with my 1872 American 3 cent piece which my overrated Coin Prices magazine says is worth $19 in G4 condition- anybody care to chance a grade at this. Maybe my coin dealer will trade ME an ASE for it or something. Thanks for looking, Mark

Don't know grading TOO well but I'm fairly certain that's much better than g4 condition... trade it for more silver if you can... sweet find

I would say the obverse is a Fine-12 to 15 and the reverse is VF-30 or 25.
I used the 2nd edition of the ANA Grading Standards book for the comparison - shows my age.

The coin counter I use in the bank lobby are "Coin Star" brand and aside from sizing the coins they also read the metal to count the coins, therefor all foreign coin, tokens, slugs etc. go into a tray where there's an openning in the front of the machine. First time I used one there was a silver Rosie in there- lady told ME sometimes old coins get rejected. HH Mark

That's neat. In the bank do they take a percentage for using that machine as they do in the supermarkets?
At the recent ANA convention here in Phoenix our club president told about a well dressed lady who came in late Sunday wanting to sell some coins. She told him a relative of her husband had died and they had found some coins. They took them to such a machine and were feeding them in, until they were getting more rejections than acceptions. So they quit and decided to check out the coins.

With an account there I don't have to pay a fee- but without an acct its 8.9% just like the ones in the grocery stores. About your story, the sick part is the machine probly did accept some good stuff and reintroduced enough times probly would have accepted most of them. Awell some coin roll hunter may get a nice surprise. HH Mark
